A year ago, I got engaged;
less than five months later, I was married.
Although it was a whirlwind of planning and
emotion, I can't imagine doing it any
other way because it was my way.
Vowing to share my life with Matty
'until death do us part' was easy;
committing to a dress,
however, was an act of devotion
I found almost impossible to pledge.
I tried on scores of dresses, borrowed
from the closets of everyone I knew
and from Angelina, Priscilla and David, too;
I felt pressured to make a decision but
although most looked great, none felt right.
Both Matt and I are careful decision makers,
but once he makes a decision, he is resolute.
Hell, he entered Neiman's to buy his
wedding suit one afternoon as Matt only
to exit an hour later as Mr. Armani.
For me, it wasn't that easy but
still, I refused to settle. It may take
me a long time to make a choice,
but once I do, I'm resolute, too.
After all, I wasn't single for
a decade for lack of suitors...
A week before the wedding,
I was still without the dress when
it materialized out of a pile of lace and silk.
Funny, I guess it had been there all the time.
Choosing a wedding dress is like
choosing the man to wear it for.
There are countless beautiful dresses:
the more you try on, the more perfect
for you each one will appear in
the eyes of others. And the more
pressure you'll feel to ma ke a purchase.
But it's not their dress; it's yours
and you'll know when it's the one.
After all, their eyes may see but your heart will know.
Love the dress, but REALLY love the ring - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteQuite the catalog of dresses! I was the opposite...found my dress the first time I went out shopping. I don't have a lot of patience for shopping, so it's probably good that it worked out that way.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the five month engagement. A whirlwind--but just the perfect amount of time.
I thought you looked beautiful on your wedding day. And you are so right, you are the only one that knows when you have found the right dress. I will say though that although the dress in picture 2 was not THE wedding dress, you look amazing in that dress. Buy it, shorten it and have that new husband of yours take you out somewhere fabulous!
