Domesstic

Surprisingly, over the years I've discovered that
I'm pretty good at most things hearth and home:

My momma taught me how to set a pretty table
and fashion its lovely centerpiece without much effort.
I'm pretty clever when it comes to making
things look good (on the surface), too...
... and I've proven that I'm pretty handy with
a hammer, screwdriver, drill, or staple gun.
Decorating doesn't always come easy to me but
I manage just fine; Christmas trees are my specialty and
mine always looks just like my mom's,
right down to the cat curled underneath
But when it comes to the food part of domesticity,
I am an epic failure, a real domesstic.
I just am not good at all things food:
I can't buy it, season it, cook it or enjoy
any part of it except for eating it.
Yep, that's my fridge and what you see is $176.00
worth of nothing, minus the three meals we ate
at home this week (chicken, chicken, and chicken...
the last chicken dinner consisting of a bowl of
scissored - yes, scissored - breast doused in blue cheese).
I don't know what I'm going to do to make it better
but I'm thinking that if I moved here,
it would have to get a lot easier, right?

My name is Ali, and I'm a domesstic.

  1. You are perfect! What you just need is time. Remember your mamma didn't work full-time till you were 12, so she had all day to prepare dinner. Being a housewife was the best job I ever had, the pay was poor, but the rewards many! XoXo

  2. You must get your "creativity" from your Aunt Janet. She's pretty darn good with a screw gun, hammer, and chop saw!! And Anonymous who we all know who that is, is so correct about being a housewife is/was the best job ever! xoxoxo

  4. First of all, I applaud you for your ability to make things look good, table-wise. I can do it, but I find it really annoying. If it involves a power tool, I'm good. I can also do a pretty good turn in the kitchen. In fact, I prefer the work in the kitchen to the cleaning and decorating part. But I wouldn't give up hope on becoming a decent chef. First of all, there are a number of cooks who use kitchen sheers on their chicken, so you are not alone. Second, there is so much you can cook that takes virtually no time. Or, you can do what Ari and I do. One of us spends a few hours in the kitchen on the weekend and we have great food all week. Third, it gives you so much more control over what you put in your body, which I think is crucial now more than ever.
