S(ingle)W(orking)M(om)

SWM with oldest daughter, Bre

This mommy interview is from a girl who I have been friends with for almost my entire life. We have done some crazy things together (like put microwavable plastic dishes in the oven and after realizing they were melting we took them out and put them in the microwave to finish the baking process) and we have one of those invisible bonds that people get from living within eye shot of each others' homes in NJ.

Our lives were not always matched up or aligned or however parallel lives exist, but it always seems like we "get" each other no matter where we are at or what we are doing.

This woman is always around the corner with a cake and will provide one when you are least expecting it. She has really exploited her talent in the most positive way a person knows how, and bakes her way through every up and down in life.

She is stronger than she will ever let on and has a sweetness and tone of acceptance that I cannot even pretend I have (but would like to work on).

This week I present to you Jaime D.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?
Favorite thing about being a mom has to be seeing a smile on their faces when they are happy, or the day to day stories that make you smile. Sometimes it's just watching them grow into best friends.

What is the most difficult part of being a mother?
The most difficult part would be using all the time in the day to your advantage and being a constant referee.

Why are you a working mom?
I have worked since I turned 16 and it's a big part of who I am and what makes me, me. I don't ever want to lose that. I also believe it teaches my daughters that can also have a balance of working and children.

What is the sweetest part about being a mother?
I think the sweetest part of my girls is after a long day of work picking them up from school and seeing them run to me and can't wait to share their day's happenings with me. I love the way Breanna makes me laugh no matter what and her endless energy. And how Taylor is an independent little girl who will tell you how it is one minute and give you an unlimited amount of love the next.

What do you love about your job?
Being that I am a cake decorator, it is just a creative outlet for me and I love to see a smile on a child's face when you make the perfect cake for their birthday.

How do you get through the work day?
Usually it's pretty easy getting through the day because there is so much work that keeps me busy and I also get to bring my Ipod to work which makes the day a lot more fun!!

What are you best at when it comes to being a mom?
When it comes to being a mom I think I am best at just having fun with them, having them try new adventures with me and making memories that hopefully will last forever!!

What are you the worst at?
I would have to say I am worst at getting them to bed, it just never works the way its suppose to and following through with punishments.

What are your girls' favorite foods?
They both have similar taste in foods, they love any kind of cold veggies especially salad, macaroni and cheese, chicken, and our all time favorite is Mexican Food, especially Jose Tejas :)

Describe the perfect afternoon.
A perfect afternoon would be a summer day where we could go to the water park and then to the boardwalk. That's their favorite thing to do, and I don't mind at all. I enjoy it too.

Jamie added at the end:
"Hope this helps."

She is always in "charity" mode. Love you Jaime. It seems like you never tire. Thanks for taking the time to respond and your spelling was great by the way.
